It’s that time of year again; sub-zero temperatures, rock-hard running surfaces and a big old tent in Sherwood pines, filled with cakes, tea and treats; Yes, the Rasselbock winter run was back

Max the dog took me for a walk, and I met a neighbour who asked me if I still run. When I replied that I did, she went on to talk about a lady she sees running regularly. She described her exact route and commented “She’s not young. She must be in her sixties.”  I knew who she meant. I’ve seen that same woman regularly and think good on her, just as I do when I see any runner.

Saturday 9th September 2023 marked the second anniversary of the passing of an inspirational young man, a man who Rob was lucky enough to interview back in January 2021, (series 2, episode 3.) It is an interview I will never forget as it changed my outlook on life forever.

It’s certainly been a minute since I sat down in front of the laptop to get my thoughts down. As we head into the autumn, after an action packed summer I wanted to take a little bit of time to catch you up and let you know what's going on.

DID NOT START (DNS) - sometimes it's the best decision.

I had said I was going to write about the new race in Heaton, Manchester called The Ultra Loop after I had done it. It was made all the more exciting as it was a new event and I had won it in an Instagram competition. But I did not start.

We’ve all been there as a newbie runner. We started running for our own personal reasons; from weight loss to mental health, time on our own or as a social hobby and besides, it’s a free or cheap hobby, isn’t it? Everyone says so.

Sunday 23rd April was my third London (fourth if you include the 2020 virtual) and it seemed I’d once again managed to book the perfect accommodation purely by chance.

Medals; they’re a staple part of the runners’ life. You run a race and at the end you get some water, maybe a banana or an energy bar, and a medal. Something to remember your achievement by.

Wow - how is it April already?! 

I am sat in the only spot in my caravan at Hafan y Mor Haven writing this blog on my phone before embarking on 5 miles in the first bit of sunshine we have had since we arrived 3 days ago!

So that’s challenge number 2 done. My proudest DNF (did not finish).

Well here we are gang, January ticked off. Despite some questionable weather and everyone seemingly getting over a bout of ‘not-Covid’ it’s been an action packed month!
