Alton Towers weekender

An account of the day by Rob Hitchmough:

All the Fartlek Family feels were flowing on a mild but beautiful weekend in November as we organised our biggest ever Fartlek Family meet up at the inaugural Run Through Alton Towers Half marathon.

Pre-race meet-up

There had been warnings of a hilly route, but that did little to dampen the spirits of our amazing squad members as they tackled the distance, some for the very first time! I say it didn’t dampen their spirits...by the time we hit the car park for the 2nd lap I was feeling a little moist for sure.

The difficulty of the course only enhanced the sense of achievement at the end as our squad trickled through one by one, with some getting new personal bests, shouted home by a cheer squad dreams are made of.

As much fun as it was, the run was just a small part of the weekend as we had organised plenty of fun around it. Saturday night beers may not have been the wisest idea, but then again, neither was Matt not booking a hotel room and having to explore the option of sleeping in a car park 5 pints deep. The park stayed open on Sunday exclusively for race participants and the adrenaline junkies amongst us took full advantage, staying in the park until well after dark, enjoying the thrills as friendships formed.

Back to the pub for more beers of course after, as pool tournaments, TikTok videos and Travelodge after parties rounded out a weekend that will live long in our memories

A huge thank you to Run Through for their support in organising the event and an even bigger thank you to all of you, our incredible Fartlek Family for joining us on this wicked weekend away. Plans are already in place for 2022, which we hope is going to be even bigger - drop us a message for some more details.

Choo Choo!!
