After two hotly contested semi finals with more impressive performances and awesome PB's being set, our finalists were confirmed as Claire and Neil.
The North v South final was set for 28th May with Claire making the trip to her local Widnes parkrun and Neil heading over to Littlehampton for ultimate PB potential.
Our very own Ben and Emma headed over to Widnes to see Claire and meet up with others from the Team Widnes contingent to see how she would get on, whilst Neil had the support of Byron, the running plumber.
With the finalists ready and 9am fast approaching, both Claire and Neil knew they needed to push hard and soon it was time to run.
Claire started fast and clung on until the end, crossing the line in 23:58, achieving another massive PB with 40 seconds taken off her all time record!!
Neil also started off quick and sped his way round in 24:53 clocking up another new PB by 17 seconds.
Excellent work from them both.
That meant that Claire was our inaugural Parkrun cup champion and Ben was on hand to present her with the winners trophy.
Claire said "I've wanted a sub 24 5k since I started running over 10 years ago. I didn't think I had it in me. I'm so grateful to What The Fartlek podcast and Ben and Emma for organising the cup and pushing me. Its a massive confidence boost and a reminder to have some self belief (sheer competitiveness from me so far)."
